We All Serve Something | Create to Give Week 3 | Pastor Andrew Cromwell

Genesis 12:2 ESV: And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.

Who Will You Serve?

Luke 16:13 NKJV: “No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.”

We All Serve Something

Who or what gets your time, talents and treasure?

Option #1 — Choose to Serve Mammon

Luke 16:13 NKJV: …You cannot serve God and mammon.”

What Mammon Promises but Can’t Fulfill

  • Peace – Phil. 4:7 The peace of God… will rule your heart and mind.
  • Joy – Rom.15:13 May the God of hope fill you with joy.
  • Security – Psalm 16:8 The Lord is my right hand, I will not be shaken.
  • Pleasure –Psalm 16:11 In your right hand are pleasures forever.
  • Hope – Jer. 29:11 I have plans to give you a hope and future.
  • Identity – 2 Cor. 6:18 I will be a father to you, you are my sons and daughters.

You can have money and possessions — They just can’t have you!

Option #2 — Choose to Serve God

Ways We Can Serve with Our Resources

1. We can serve God with our resources to glorify Him and celebrate His .

1 Chronicles 29:11-12 NLT: Yours, O LORD, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty. Everything in the heavens and on earth is yours, O LORD, and this is your kingdom. We adore you as the one who is over all things. Wealth and honor come from you alone, for you rule over everything…

2. We can serve God with our resources to ensure our heart remains .

1 Timothy 6:6-10 NLT: True godliness with contentment is itself great wealth. After all, we brought nothing with us when we came into the world, and we can’t take anything with us when we leave it. So if we have enough food and clothing, let us be content. But people who long to be rich fall into temptation and are trapped by many foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows.

3. We can serve God with our resources to .

Acts 4:32, 34-35 NLT: All the believers were united in heart and mind. And they felt that what they owned was not their own, so they shared everything they had…There were no needy people among them, because those who owned land or houses would sell them and bring the money to the apostles to give to those in need.

4. We can serve God with our resources to help others in .

2 Corinthians 9:8-9 NLT: And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others. As the Scriptures say, “They share freely and give generously to the poor. Their good deeds will be remembered forever.”
