Jesus Over The Storm

(Matthew 14:22-24 NLT) 22 Immediately after this, Jesus insisted that his disciples get back into the boat and cross to the other side of the lake, while he sent the people home. 23 After sending them home, he went up into the hills by himself to pray. Night fell while he was there alone. 24 Meanwhile, the disciples were in trouble far away from land, for a strong wind had risen, and they were fighting heavy waves.

1. In the storm:

(Psalm 46:1 NLT) God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.

(Matthew 14:25-26 NLT) 25 About three o’clock in the morning Jesus came toward them, walking on the water. 26 When the disciples saw him walking on the water, they were terrified. In their fear, they cried out, “It’s a ghost!”

(1 John 4:18 NLT) There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment.

(Matthew 14:27 NLT) But Jesus spoke to them at once. “Don’t be afraid,”Take courage. I am here!”

2. In the storm:

(Phillipians 4:6-7 NLT) Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Peace will guard your hearts and minds, because you are in Christ Jesus!

  • Jonah had peace in the belly of the whale b/c God was with him
  • Daniel had peace in the lion’s den b/c God was with him
  • Shadrach , Meshach, and Abendigo had peace in the fiery furnace b/c God was with them
  • David had peace on the battlefield facing Goliath because he knew that God was with HIM

You can have peace in the middle of the storm because Jesus is speaking and walking beside you on the waves!

(Isaiah 26:3 NLT) You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.

3. In the storm:

(Matthew 14:28-29 NLT) 28 Then Peter called to him, “Lord, if it’s really you, tell me to come to you, walking on the water.” 29 “Yes, come,” Jesus said. So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus.

4. In the storm:

(Matthew 14:30-31 NLT) 30 But when he saw the strong wind and the waves, he was terrified and began to sink. “Save me, Lord!” he shouted. 31 Jesus immediately reached out and grabbed him.

Matthew 14:31-32 NLT) 31 Jesus immediately reached out and grabbed him. “You have so little faith,” Jesus said. “Why did you doubt me?” 32 When they climbed back into the boat, the wind stopped.

How do we walk by faith in a storm ?

  1. Trust God’s word to us and trust that His word never fails us.
  2. Get your feet wet and step out into the unknown.
  3.  Remember the miracle leftovers at your feet.
