Why We Pray

(Mark 1:35-39) 35 Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. 36 Simon and his companions went to look for him, 37 and when they found him, they exclaimed: “Everyone is looking for you!” 38 Jesus replied, “Let us go somewhere else—to the nearby villages—so I can preach there also. That is why I have come.” 39 So he traveled throughout Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out demons. 

1. Our purpose is in prayer

(Mark 1:38) Jesus replied, “Let us go somewhere else—to the nearby villages—so I can preach there also. That is why I have come.” 

(Mark 10:45) For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” 

2. Our passion is in prayer

(Mark 1:39) So he traveled throughout Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out demons. 

3. Our pain is in prayer

(1 Peter 5:7) Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 

(Philippians 4:6) Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

(Matthew 8:2) A man with leprosy came and knelt before him and said, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.”

(Matthew 8:3) Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” Immediately he was cleansed of his leprosy. 

(Matthew 8:13) Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go! Let it be done just as you believed it would.”And his servant was healed at that moment. 

(Matthew 8:14) When Jesus came into Peter’s house, he saw Peter’s mother-in-law lying in bed with a fever. 

(Matthew 8:15) He touched her hand and the fever left her, and she got up and began to wait on him.

4. We are reminded of in prayer

(Mark 1:39) So he traveled throughout Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out demons. 

(2 Chronicles 7:14) if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
