SMALL GROUP QUESTIONS

What do you think?

From this past Sunday’s service, what particular point stood out to you, challenged you, or raised a question for you?

The story of your life.

  1. On Sunday, Pastor Obie talked about removing obstacles to achieve the goal of the ministry. Share about a time in your life when an obstacle needed to be overcome in order to achieve a goal or desire of yours. How did you overcome it, and how did you view that obstacle once that goal was accomplished?
  2. Oftentimes in a Christians faith journey, a barrier has to be overcome to pave a new path or grow deeper with the Lord. This can happen in the beginning of our journey or even at a major pivot point in our lives. For those that can relate and feel comfortable sharing, tell the group about that experience.

Digging deeper in God’s Word.

  1. One of the greatest stories in the Bible of a barrier being removed is Moses and the Isrealites crossing the Red Sea. Read Exodus 14:1–31 together, have a few members of the group recap the story and then answer the following questions.
    1. What does this passage tell us about God/people?
    2. What insights does this passage give us about viewing obstacles and barriers in our lives today?
    3. In light of this, is there anything specific that God is calling you to do differently?
  2. The Bible is full of verses about overcoming obstacles and being barrier breakers for the Gospel. Read the verses below one at a time and discuss what insights they provide about the hope we have in heaven.
    1. James 1:2-4
    2. Romans 8:37
    3. 2 Corinthians 12:8-10
    4. Jeremiah 1:19
    5. Romans 5:3-5
    6. Mark 10:13-14
    7. Romans 16:17

Personal reflection and application.

  1. Have everyone share one thing someone else said that struck a chord with you from this discussion.
  2. Break up into smaller groups and pray for one another (preferably men with men and women with women).
