   2. Did you make any New Year’s resolutions? If so, how well are you keeping it?
3. Go around again and have every person in the group share one thing they’re hoping to see God accomplish in this upcoming session of small groups.

Digging deeper in God’s Word.

1. Our goal for this session of small groups is to fill in the gaps between the Sunday messages about the life and ministry of Christ. Today’s study takes us to John 2:13-22, often referred to as the first cleansing of the Temple. It is believed that Jesus did this on two occasions, once at the very beginning of his ministry and again towards the very end. Read the text together, Have a few members of the group recap the story using their own words and then answer the following questions.
   1. What do you think it says about Jesus that this was one of the first things he did after starting his ministry?
   2. What does this story tell us about God? People? Ourselves?
2. After his first miracle and the cleansing of the temple, people started to believe in the signs Jesus was performing. However the Lord’s response to their belief seems a bit peculiar. Read John 2:23-25 together and answer the following.
   1. Explain what you think was going on here using your own words.
   2. What does this tell us about God? People? Ourselves?
   3. In light of this, is there anything you need to do differently?

Personal reflection and application.
