Small Group Questions

What do you think?

From Sunday’s message, what particular point stood out to you, challenged you, or raised a question for you?

The story of your life.

  1. What do you think it would have felt like to walk on water?
  2. Tell about a time in your life when either of the following happened. A. God led you through a storm. B. God used you to do/be a part of something truly miraculous.

Digging deeper.

  1. This past Sunday, Pastor Kyle talked about how “Sometimes the center of God’s will is right in the middle of the storm.” In the book of Daniel, three friends were brought into a very difficult circumstance because of their choice to remain obedient to God. Read Daniel 3:8-30 and then answer the prompts below.
    1. Have a few members of the group recap this story using their own words.
    2. What does this story tell us about God? People? Us?
  1. The story of when Paul and Silas were sent to prison is another example of how being in the center of God’s will can lead to difficult circumstances. Read Acts 16:16-34 and pay specific attention to how Paul and Silas responded in the midst of this difficult circumstance.
    1. Have a few members of the group recap this story using their own words.
    2. What does this story tell us about God? People? Us?
  2. Peter walked on water successfully when he was focused on Jesus. However, he began to sink the moment he took his focus off of Jesus and looked at the wind and the waves. Keeping our hearts focused on Jesus is key to not “sinking” in this life. Read the following verses and discuss each one.
    1. Colossians 3:2
    2. Matthew 6:24
    3. Matthew 6:33
    4. Hebrews 12:1-2
    5. Isaiah 26:3-4
    6. John 8:31-32
    7. Philippians 4:8

Personal reflection and application.

  1. Have everyone share one thing someone else mentioned that struck a chord with you from this discussion.
  2. Pray for one another (preferably men with men and women with women if possible).
