Small Group Questions

What do you think?

From Sunday’s message, what particular point stood out to you, challenged you, or raised a question for you?

The story of your life.

Share about a time when a friend of yours came above and beyond to help you.

Digging deeper.

  1.  On Sunday, Pastor Obie talked about bringing our friends to Jesus. The biblical term for spreading the Christian faith is evangelism. It can be an intimidating topic in some respects but God doesn’t want it to be like that. It’s really just a lifelong process of loving our family/friends to Jesus. One of the ways Christ talked about this process was a parable about a sower. Read it together in Matthew 13:1-9 followed by Matthew 13:18-23 and answer the following prompts.
    1. Have a few members of the group recap the parable using their own words.
    2. What does this story tell us about God? Evangelism? Us?
  2. As Jesus expanded his ministry from the initial 12 disciples, he sent out 72 in pairs all throughout the region. Most likely, they prepared the way for Jesus’ gatherings. This passage gives us a good deal of insight about what preparing the way for Jesus looks like in our family/friends’ lives as well. Read Luke 10:1-12 and answer the following prompts.
    1. Have a few members of the group recap the parable using their own words.
    2. What does this story tell us about God? Evangelism? Us?
  3.  What further insights about evangelism do the following verses give us? Read/discuss them one at a time.
    1. Acts 1:8.
    2. Colossians 4:3.
    3. Philemon 1:6.
    4. Matthew 9:35-38.
  4. With all this in mind, what do you think it means for you to be evangelistic in your world right now?

Personal reflection and application.

  1. Have everyone share one thing someone else mentioned that struck a chord with you from this discussion.
  2. Pray for one another (preferably men with men and women with women if possible).
