Digging deeper.
- One tragic biblical story of a group of people who gave up too soon is found in Numbers 13-14. As a backstory, the Israelites had been delivered from slavery in Egypt but most complained constantly, asking to return to Egypt. In the midst of their wilderness wandering, God tells Moses to send twelve spies to inspect the Promised Land and see what may lay ahead. Read Numbers 13:1-14:12, followed by 14:20-25 and answer the following prompts/questions.
- Have a few members of the group recap the story using their own words.
- What does this story tell us about God? Perseverance? Us and ourselves?
- In light of this, is there anything you need to do differently?
- Have a few members of the group recap the story using their own words.
- Now turn to Luke 18:1-8. In many ways, it’s a story with a simple point. However, Jesus included it in Scripture for us to internalize and live that point.
