The Story of Your Life.
- On Sunday, Pastor Kyle talked about “The Power of the Same.” Are you the kind of person who prefers change and new things or do you tend to enjoy doing more of the same things? Explain.
- The climax of 1 Corinthians 10-11 is the taking of the Lord’s Supper. If we are not careful, this beautiful reminder/sacrament can become a ritual. What helps you keep communion a relational, fresh experience with God?
Digging Deeper in God’s Word.
- Last Sunday, we covered 1 Corinthians 10 where numerous examples of the Israelites’ sin during their wilderness wanderings are referenced. Paul was drawing the connections to warn Corinthian Christians (and the rest of us by extension) about the dangers of idolatry. For today’s study, we will look at two of those Old Testament references and draw parallels with modern Christianity. Read Exodus 16:1-17:7 and answer the following prompts.
- Have a few members of the group recap the story using their own words.
- What does this story tell us about God/people?
- Now go back and reread 1 Corinthians 10:1-6. What further insight does Paul give into what was happening in Exodus 16?
- Another Israelite wilderness story referenced in 1 Corinthians 10 was the idolatrous worship of the golden calf. Read Exodus 32:1-35 and answer the following prompts.
- Have a few members of the group recap the story using their own words.
- What does this story tell us about God/people?
- In 2022, idolatry looks a bit different for us. Can you think of a few examples of idolatry in our world today?
- One final topic broached in Sunday’s message was that of dealing with and overcoming temptation. What insights do the following verses offer on this subject? Read each of the following verses one at a time and discuss.
