Small Group Questions

What Do You Think?

What struck a chord with you from Sunday’s service?

The Story of Your Life.

  1. On Sunday, Pastor Kyle mentioned that the types of silver mirrors we are all accustomed to seeing ourselves in every day were not invented until the 1800’s. That means for the rest of history, people used whatever shiny objects they had to see their reflection. Try to imagine how your life would be if you did not have a properly functioning mirror of any kind. Do you think it would be better? Worse? Explain.
  2. Pastor Kyle also discussed how love is the greatest motivator for spiritual growth and maturity. Tell about someone in your life who motivated you to grow in ways others have not. What about that person made you so receptive to their words, critiques, etc.?

Digging Deeper in God’s Word.

  1. God’s love is the greatest motivation for spiritual growth and maturity. When God saves us, it’s to become more like Him every day. That process begins at our salvation and is completed upon our union with Christ when we die. 2 Peter 3:18 explains it well saying “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” The Parable of the Sower says a great deal about how spiritual growth happens. Read Matthew 13:1-23 and answer the following prompts.
    1. Have a few members of the group recap the story using their own words.
    2. What does this story tell us about God/people?
    3. What insights can we glean about spiritual growth from this passage?
    4. In light of all this, is there anything you need to do differently?
  2. The following verses all give different insights about spiritual growth. Read them one at a time and share what it teaches us about spiritual growth.
    1. 1 Samuel 2:26.
    2. Colossians 1:9-10.
    3. Philippians 1:6.
    4. 1 Peter 2:2-3.
    5. 2 Peter 1:5-8.
    6. Hebrews 6:1-2.

Personal reflection and application.

  1. Have everyone share one thing someone else said during the discussion that stood out to you.
  2. Pray for one another.
