Small Group Questions

Thank you for joining a Small Group! We are so glad you made the decision to grow in your faith, knowledge of the Bible and make some friends along the way.

Getting to Know You

  1. Have everyone share their name, how they came to City Church, something about themselves, why they joined a small group and one thing they are looking forward to in this upcoming session of small groups.

  2. Take time to go over the Small Group guidelines.

What Do You Think?

From Sunday’s message, what particular point stood out, challenged, or raised a question for you?

The Story of Your Life

  1. What comes to mind when you think of the Gospel?

  2. Share the best analogy/comparison/metaphor/story to depict the Gospel you have ever heard. It could be from a preacher, something you read, an art piece, etc. In what ways did it articulate the Gospel well? In what ways was it incomplete or a tad off from Scripture?

Digging Deeper in God’s Word

  1. On Sunday, Pastor Kyle shared how Ephesians 2:1-10 beautifully articulates the core of the Gospel and the basic call of the Christian life. Re-read it together out loud and share any insights either about the Gospel or living a life worthy of it that you come across.

  2. Outside of being saved and making it into Heaven when we die, perhaps the next best part of the Gospel is to be able to live a life worthy of it. With Jesus and the Holy Spirit, we are able to please God and walk in the good works He has for us. Yet as we do “good works” for God, there is a temptation to be prideful about it and perhaps even toot our own horn a little. How do the following verses help us guard against that way of thinking? Read them out loud one at a time, pausing to share the insights for each one as you go.

Personal Reflection and Application

  1. Have everyone share one thing that another person in the group shared that struck a chord with them.

  2. Break up into smaller groups and pray for one another (preferably men with men and women with women).
