Small Group Questions
Before you start. If any members have not completed the Spiritual Gift Assessment, please do so now in “Digging Deeper 1a” as the rest of the group goes through the next 2 sections.
What Do You Think?
What were your thoughts on Sunday’s message? What point or comment challenged you, got you to think, or raised a question for you?
The Story of Your Life.
On Sunday, Pastor Obie talked about the importance of being a part of the body of Christ. Tell about a time when someone (not on the platform) blessed or encouraged you in the body of Christ.
Digging Deeper in God’s Word.
- Pastor Obie gave out a homework assignment to the church to complete an online Spiritual Gifts Assessment Test. By now, each member should have completed it. If you haven’t, please complete the instructions in section “a” then answer the following questions.
- Spiritual Gifts Assessment instructions. What does this story tell us about God/people?
- Go to www.lovehopecity.com/spiritualgifts
- Click “Take Test.”
- Tap “Click Here to Register.”
- Choose the “Individual” option at the top.
- Fill in your information.
- Choose “Spiritual Gifts Test (FREE).”
- Create your login.
- Finish by clicking at the bottom “Unlock Your Full Potential.”
- Click the circle icon that says “Spiritual Gifts Test.”
- Take the assessment test.
- Go around and share your top 3 Spiritual Gifts. Did they surprise you or was it spot on?
- The purpose of the Spiritual Gifts Assessment is not to definitively determine that these are your Spiritual Gifts but rather to give you a ballpark idea of what gift you gravitate towards the most. Knowing this, what ministry do you feel would best utilize those giftings?
- The purpose of ministry is always to bless people and help them find Christ. How can you practically apply those gifts in a ministry to bless someone this week?
- Spiritual Gifts Assessment instructions. What does this story tell us about God/people?
- 1 Corinthians 12:8-11 and Romans 12:6-8 are two places in scripture that talk about Spiritual Gifts. Read them and share about a time you experienced one of the “Gifts of the Spirit” in a way that blessed you or encouraged your faith.
- John 13 marks the beginning of what is often referred to as the “Upper Room Discourse” where Jesus was leaving his disciples with final thoughts about what they should do and how they should live as a result of knowing him. Knowing the Cross was coming, he began this time with a powerful metaphor. Read John 13:1-17 and have a few members of the group recap the story using their own words.
- What does this story tell us about God/people/serving people?
Personal reflection and application.
- Have everyone share one thing someone else said that stood out to you from this discussion.
- Break up into smaller groups and pray for one another.
