Icebreaker: What has been the most encouraging part of our study of Micah 6:8 these three weeks?

Sermon Title: 6:8 – “Walk humbly with your God” – Micah 6:8

Group Discussion:

Read Micah 6:8, Deuteronomy 10:12-13, & Leviticus 26:12 – Walking with the Lord – How can these verses (Deuteronomy & Leviticus) deepen our understanding of Micah 6:8? What can we learn about the relationship that Jesus desires and expects to have with us? Discuss how following Jesus, as a person rather than simply obeying a set of rules, can influence our faith journey: Share an example.

Read Psalm 23:1-4, 1 John 2:3-6, & 2 John 1:4 – Walking with the Lord – Discuss how walking with Jesus involves both absorbing His truth while actively acknowledging His presence in our daily lives. Consider the imagery in Psalm 23 (i.e., green pastures, quiet waters, dark valleys). How can this metaphor deepen our understanding of what an intimate, daily relationship with Jesus can look like?

Read Ephesians 4:1-6 & 1 John 4:15-17– Walking humbly with the Lord – In light of these passages, what should it look like to walk humbly with the Lord in community? Discuss how we can learn to depend on His love to influence how we relate to others. Share an example of how embracing Jesus’ perfect love can enable us to respond with humility and unity rather than pride and division.

Read Micah 7:18-20 & 1 John 1:7 – Walking prudently with the Lord: A faithful rhythm. What do you notice about our sin and the Lord’s love in these verses? How do they expand on the call of Micah 6:8 to walk humbly with the Lord? Notice in the Micah passage how the Lord will deal with our sin: How can this encourage us in our faith journey becoming, and making, lifelong disciples of Jesus?

Action Steps: The Lord wants your heart; He wants your soul; He wants you. (1) Take a walk with the Lord this week: Pray that you will experience His presence daily, (2) Practice walking “prudently” with the Lord: Pay close attention to what He may be calling you to do in this season or the next season of your life, and (3) Invite a friend to take a walk: Be intentional as you walk alongside friends and disciple each other as lifelong followers in Jesus.
