“Father, Sanctify Them” / John 17:17-19

A. Set Apart Unto Truth v. 17

1. To sanctify is to set apart, to consecrate, to make
2. For the disciple, being made holy is a stage process

3. This request Jesus offers is a concern for the process

4. Jesus prays that the disciples would be made holy in

    • Only one sure source of pure truth:
    • Only one spirit of truth: the Jn 14:17 / 15:26 / 16:13
    •  One surprising reaction from the world: ! v 14

B. Committed to Mission v. 18

1. The mission of Jesus

2. The mission of the disciples

    • Jesus in the way sends His disciples into the world
    • The disciples mission was to follow and Jesus

C. Conformed to Christ v. 19

1. Jesus consecrated Himself for the of His disciples

2. He purposed that His disciples be consecrated as He is

    • The extent of this consecration is blowing vs 21a,23a
    • The testimony of this consecration is vs 21b,23b
    • The reality of this consecration is our with Christ
      • Jn 15:5 – abiding in vine
      • 2 Pt 1:4 – ‘partakers of divine nature”
