1 Samuel 14

After Samuel Saul at Gilgal – Israel defeated the Philistines.

The victory came about with the of Saul’s son Jonathan. (14:6-23)

Saul had given a very order. (vs. 24-26)

When someone is in the and wants to be on , they are prone toward the .

This happened because Saul cared more about (the task) than about .

Jonathan was the one with the thoughts. (vs. 27-30)

Clearly – Saul was becoming and others could it. (vs. 24-46)

Stop:

Don’t you have to ask – how could someone like Saul be so ?

It can happen to us when we don’t:

  1. Know – the only way for us to be is for God to be .
  2. Realize – God overcomes the with the .

“the Lord is not limited to saving by many or by few!”   1 Samuel 14:6d

I have learned – often – God’s ways don’t go with the upon or the .

Remember – God can do with or a – the question has to do with .

So the men of the garrison responded to Jonathan and his armor bearer and said, “Come up to us and we will inform you of something.” And Jonathan said to his armor bearer, “Come up after me, for the Lord has handed them over to Israel.”  1 Samuel 14:12

We Christian’s today are at an advantage. We have:

  • the .
  • the .
  • .

Notice the of and the of in verses:

So the men of the garrison responded to Jonathan and his armor bearer and said, “Come up to us and we will inform you of something.” And Jonathan said to his armor bearer, “Come up after me, for the Lord has handed them over to Israel.” Then Jonathan climbed up on his hands and feet, with his armor bearer behind him; and the men fell before Jonathan, and his armor bearer put some to death after him. Now that first slaughter which Jonathan and his armor bearer inflicted was about twenty men within about half a furrow in an acre of land.  And there was a trembling in the camp, in the field, and among all the people. Even the garrison and the raiders trembled, and the earth quaked so that it became a great trembling.  1 Samuel 14:12-15

Saul:

  • He often makes decisions.
  • Had to – be on – the .
  • He was ready for the to himself.
  • Wants to good – cares more about .
