What are the gifts?
The blessing of the gifts of the Spirit is for someone else to be blessed through you.
Luke 12:48b NASB20 – “From everyone who has been given much, much will be required; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, even more will be expected.”
Matthew 20:25-28 NLT – But Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers in this world lord it over their people, and officials flaunt their authority over those under them. But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must become your slave. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
1 Corinthians 12:4-6 CSB – Now there are different gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different ministries, but the same Lord. And there are different activities, but the same God works all of them in each person.
When are they given?
Why are these gifts given?
Romans 12:2 NASB20 – And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
Ephesians 4:11-12 NASB20 – And He gave some as apostles, some as prophets, some as evangelists, some as pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the building up of the body of Christ.
1 Corinthians 12:7 NASB20 – But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.
What is the effect of these gifts?
Romans 12:10-13 NASB20 – Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor, not lagging behind in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope, persevering in tribulation, devoted to prayer, contributing to the needs of the saints, practicing hospitality.
Ephesians 4:12-13 NASB20 – for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the building up of the body of Christ; until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ.
1 Corinthians 12:14 NASB20 – For the body is not one part, but many.
God is the giver of the gifts and we are receivers of the gifts who must step out in faith in them.
How do we recognize the gifts functioning in our lives?
1. Ask the Holy Spirit for the gifts and to reveal them to you.
2. Begin to identify areas of your life where you are empowered to do things beyond your natural ability.
3. Take steps of faith into those gifts to see what level of grace the Holy Spirit has given.
