“Come Meet Jesus, the Man with Authority”
Mark 1:21-34
Like the prophets of old, Jesus possessed authority to speak on behalf of the Divine, but in this case, He was the Divine. He had a greater authority than the Jewish scribes, so they could not conclude that He was simply a good rabbi. He had power over the physical and demonic realm, and they could not conclude that He was simply an earthy king. He is the Sabbath rest foreshadowed from Genesis and in the Law. A rest not captured one day a week or upheld by religious traditions, but a forever rest for the soul!
Come and see the power of King Jesus that brings true healing and rest …
1. Power over the Law [1:21-22]
The significance of the sabbath and the synagogue
The teaching that brought astonishment
2. Power over the Demonic Realm [1:23-28]
Authority in deed
A conversation with a demon
Amazement and fame
3. Power over Physical Suffering [1:29-34]
Healing in a home
Healing in the whole city
∙ For Spiritual Conversation: How should we think about our physical suffering considering Jesus’ authority over the physical realm? What do spiritual healing and spiritual rest look like?
