Introduction

Joshua, chapter 1 is about the making of a man, a man who is strong and courageous!

5 important qualities that make a man, a strong and courageous man.

1. A man who from God

Joshua 1:1-2 (NIV) 1After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, the Lord said to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ aide2“Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them—to the Israelites.”

b. God is a vocal God, and He wants to speak to each of us!

John 10:11a, 27a (NIV) “I am the good shepherd… My sheep listen to my voice.”

a. “Moses my servant is dead”

b. Hebrews 5:12a (NLT) You have been believers so long now that you ought to be teaching others. Instead, you need someone to teach you again the basic things about God’s word.

c. As Moses’ protege, Joshua had been groomed for this very moment!

Joshua 1:2b (NIV) You and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them—to the Israelites.

 3. Strength and courage come when we understand that our power lies of .

a. Joshua 1:3, 5-6 (NIV) 3I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses… 5No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. 6Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them.

b. 2 Corinthians 12:9a (NIV) “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

c. Men, you do not have a weakness too weak that God cannot show His strength through you!

4. Being wholly committed to God’s makes us strong and courageous.

a. Joshua 1:7-8 (NASB) 7Only be strong and very courageous; be careful to do according to all the Law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, so that you may achieve success wherever you go. 8This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will achieve success.

a. Joshua 1:10-11 (NIV) 10So Joshua ordered the officers of the people: 11“Go through the camp and tell the people, ‘Get your provisions ready. Three days from now you will cross the Jordan here to go in and take possession of the land the Lord your God is giving you for your own.’”
