It’s Only Logical!
I. Introduction
A. Geocentric vs. Heliocentric
B. “What Copernicus did for the earth, God does for our souls. Tapping the collective shoulders of humanity, He points to the Son—His Son—and says, ‘Behold the center of it all.’” (Max Lucado)
1. The first in becoming a worshipper is realizing that isn’t about me.
2. John 3:30 (NIV) ”He must become greater; I must become less.”
3. Luke 22:24 (NLT) Then they began to argue among themselves about who would be the greatest among them.
4. “When God looks at the center of the universe, He doesn’t look at you. When heaven’s stagehands direct the spotlight towards the star of the show, I need no sunglasses. No light falls on me. …God does not exist to make a big deal out of us. We exist to make a big deal out of Him. It’s not about you. It’s not about me. It’s all about Him.” (Max Lucado)
5. Worship is our to what we value most.
C. 3 certainties of life
1. You will something.
a. “Here’s something else that’s weird but true: in the day-to-day trenches of adult life, there is actually no such thing as atheism. There is no such thing as not worshipping. Everybody worships. The only choice we get is what to worship.” (David Foster Wallace)
b. Worship is our to what we value most.
2. There is a for your worship.
3. You will what you worship.
a. “The gods we worship write their names on our faces … A person will worship something, have no doubt about that. We may think our tribute is paid in secret in the dark recesses of our hearts, but it will come out. That which dominates our imaginations and our thoughts will determine our lives, and our character. Therefore, it behooves us to be careful what we worship, for that we are worshipping, we are becoming.” (Ralph Waldo Emerson)
II. Romans 12
A. I Timothy 1:12-13 (NIV) 12I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that he considered me trustworthy, appointing me to his service. 13Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief.
B. Romans 12:1 (NIV) Therefore …
1. Romans 2:4 (NLT) Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can’t you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin?
2. Romans 2:11 (NLT) For God does not show favoritism.
3. Romans 3:23-24 (NLT) 23For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. 24Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins.
4. Romans 5:8 (NIV) But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
5. Romans 8:15 (NLT) So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.”
C. Romans 12:1 (NIV) Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters….
D. Romans 12:1 (NIV) Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy ….
E. Romans 12:1 (NIV) Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God ….
F. Romans 12:1 (NIV) Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.
1. : reasonable, rational, logical
2. I exhort therefore you, through the mercies of God, to present the bodies of you a sacrifice, living and holy to God, well-pleasing, which is (the) reasonable/logical service of worship.
III. Conclusion
