I. Introduction

A. Followers of Jesus are risk-taking people.

B. John 14:1 (NLT) “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.”

C. II Timothy 1:7 (NLT) For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity but of power, love, and self-discipline.

II. Risk-Taking People

A. Luke 10:25 (NLT) One day an expert in religious law stood up to test Jesus by asking him this question: “Teacher, what must I do to receive eternal life?”

2. Those who want to the message of Christ inside of them.

B. Luke 10:26-28 (NLT) 26Jesus replied, “What does the law of Moses say? How do you read it?” 27The man answered, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.’ And, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” 28“Right!” Jesus told him. “Do this and you will live!”

C. Luke 10:29 (NLT) The man wanted to justify his actions, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”

1. Will we choose to God in our practices?

D. Luke 10:30 (NLT) Jesus replied with an illustration: “A Jewish man was traveling on a trip from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he was attacked by bandits. They stripped him of his clothes and money, beat him up, and left him half dead beside the road.”

E. Luke 10:31-32 (NLT) 31“By chance a Jewish priest came along; but when he saw the man lying there, he crossed to the other side of the road and passed him by. 32A Temple assistant walked over and looked at him lying there, but he also passed by on the other side.”

1. How far can I go with safety and security and continue to Christ?

F. Luke 10:33 (NLT) “Then a despised Samaritan came along, and when he saw the man, he felt deep pity.”

G. Luke 10:34-37 (NLT) 34“Kneeling beside him, the Samaritan soothed his wounds with medicine and bandaged them. Then he put the man on his own donkey and took him to an inn, where he took care of him. 35The next day he handed the innkeeper two pieces of silver and told him to take care of the man. ‘If his bill runs higher than that,’ he said, ‘I’ll pay the difference the next time I am here.’ 36“Now which of these three would you say was a neighbor to the man who was attacked by bandits?” Jesus asked. 37The man replied, “The one who showed him mercy.” Then Jesus said, “Yes, now go and do the same.”
