The Pursuit of Wisdom
The Right Kind of Fear

I. Introduction

A.

Deuteronomy 6:5 (NLT) And you must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength.

B.

Romans 8:38a (NLT) And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love.

C.

1. Proverbs are catchy descriptions about the way things “generally” are!

Proverbs 11:25 (NLT) The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.

II. The Right Kind of Fear

Proverbs 1:7 (NLT) Fear of the LORD is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.

Proverbs 9:10 (NLT) Fear of the LORD is the foundation of wisdom. Knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgment.

1 John 4:18a (NLT) Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear.

Acts 9:31 (NLT) The church then had peace throughout Judea, Galilee, and Samaria, and it became stronger as the believers lived in the fear of the Lord. And with the encouragement of the Holy Spirit, it also grew in numbers.

Revelation 14:6-7 (NAS) 6And I saw another angel flying in midheaven, having an eternal gospel to preach to those who live on the earth, and to every nation and tribe and tongue and people; 7and he said with a loud voice, “Fear God, and give Him glory, because the hour of His judgment has come; worship Him who made the heaven and the earth and sea and springs of waters.”

Hebrews 12:28 (NLT) Since we are receiving a Kingdom that is unshakable, let us be thankful and please God by worshiping him with holy fear and awe.

Psalm 19:1-6 (NLT) 1The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. 2Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him known. 3They speak without a sound or word; their voice is never heard. 4Yet their message has gone throughout the earth, and their words to all the world. God has made a home in the heavens for the sun. 5It bursts forth like a radiant bridegroom after his wedding. It rejoices like a great athlete eager to run the race. 6The sun rises at one end of the heavens and follows its course to the other end. Nothing can hide from its heat.

Isaiah 40:12,15 (NLT) 12Who else has held the oceans in his hand? Who has measured off the heavens with his fingers? Who else knows the weight of the earth or has weighed the mountains and hills on a scale? 15All the nations of the world are but a drop in the bucket. They are nothing more than dust on the scales. He picks up the whole earth as though it were a grain of sand.

Judges 13:18b (NAS) “Why do you ask my name, seeing it is wonderful?”

Romans 8:38-39 (NAS) 38For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
