Walk This Way

I. Intro

A. John 1:6-9 (NLT) 6God sent a man, John the Baptist, 7to tell about the light so that everyone might believe because of his testimony. 8John himself was not the light; he was simply a witness to tell about the light. 9The one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.

B. Witness: ;

II. A Life Pointed to More

A. The witness of our

1. Mark 1:1-6 (NLT) 1This is the Good News about Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God. It began 2just as the prophet Isaiah had written: “Look, I am sending my messenger ahead of you, and he will prepare your way. 3He is a voice shouting in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord’s coming! Clear the road for him!’” 4This messenger was John the Baptist. He was in the wilderness and preached that people should be baptized to show that they had repented of their sins and turned to God to be forgiven. 5All of Judea, including all the people of Jerusalem, went out to see and hear John. And when they confessed their sins, he baptized them in the Jordan River. 6His clothes were woven from coarse camel hair, and he wore a leather belt around his waist. For food he ate locusts and wild honey.

2. John 13:13-17 (NLT) 13You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and you are right, because that’s what I am. 14And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. 15I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you. 16I tell you the truth, slaves are not greater than their master. Nor is the messenger more important than the one who sends the message. 17Now that you know these things, God will bless you for doing them.”

B. The witness of our

1. John 1:19-31 (NLT)

2. I Peter 3:15b (NLT) …if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it.

C. The witness of our

1. John 3:26-30 (NLT) 26So John’s disciples came to him and said, “Rabbi, the man you met on the other side of the Jordan River, the one you identified as the Messiah, is also baptizing people. And everybody is going to him instead of coming to us.” 27John replied, “No one can receive anything unless God gives it from heaven. 28You yourselves know how plainly I told you, ‘I am not the Messiah. I am only here to prepare the way for him.’ 29It is the bridegroom who marries the bride, and the bridegroom’s friend is simply glad to stand with him and hear his vows. Therefore, I am filled with joy at his success. 30He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less.”

2. Matthew 16:24-26 (NLT) 24Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow me. 25If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. 26And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?”

III. Conclusion

A. Matthew 6:33 (NLT) ”Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.”

B. I Corinthians 10:31 (NLT) So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
