Why Can I Trust the Bible?

I. Introduction

A. II Timothy 3:16-17 (NAS) 16All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.

B. Psalm 119:86a (NLT) All your commands are trustworthy.

II. Why Can I Trust the Bible?

A. Because it’s accurate

1. Luke 3:1-2 (NAS) 1Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, and Herod was tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip was tetrarch of the region of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias was tetrarch of Abilene, 2in the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John, the son of Zacharias, in the wilderness.

2. I John 1:1 (NLT) We proclaim to you the one who existed from the beginning, whom we have heard and seen. We saw him with our own eyes and touched him with our own hands. He is the Word of life.

C. Because it’s accurate

1. Psalm 22:16-18 (NLT) 16My enemies surround me like a pack of dogs; an evil gang closes in on me. They have pierced my hands and feet. 17I can count all my bones. My enemies stare at me and gloat. 18They divide my garments among themselves and throw dice for my clothing.

2. Matthew 26:56a (NLT) “But this is all happening to fulfill the words of the prophets as recorded in the Scriptures.”

D. Because it’s confirmed by

1. Matthew 5:18 (NLT) “I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not even the smallest detail of God’s law will disappear until its purpose is achieved.”

2. The Bible has survived all the against it.

3. John 10:35a (NLT) “And you know that the Scriptures cannot be altered.”

4. “If you believe the parts of the Bible you like, and you don’t believe the parts of the Bible you don’t like, it’s not the Bible you trust. It’s yourself.” (St. Augustine)

E. It has power

1. John 8:31-32 (NLT) 31“You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. 32And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

2. “What is going to be the final for my life?”

3. “I’m going to submit my entire to what the says.”
