Was there something you had never heard before or something you had a question about? Read Isaiah 7:14. How do you think you would have reacted to this verse if you were alive before Jesus came to earth? Try and put yourself in Mary’s place, facing the awesome event of the virgin conception with all its potential problems. How would you feel? Have you, at some point in your life, given your future and all its dreams to God to handle as He pleases? Do you need to reconfirm that decision? Are there areas in your life that you have not yielded to God for fear of the consequences? What might God be asking you to give up? Will you surrender these areas to Him and trust Him? Are there hopes and expectations this Christmas season that God may be asking you to let go? Is it possible He is redirecting you elsewhere? John 16:33 says, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” In what areas of your life do you need to “take heart (be cheerfully courageous)”? Pray about it: Meditate on God’s Word (Matthew 16:13-28) and this week’s message. Adoration: What can I praise God for in light of what this teaches me? Confession: What sin can I confess because of what this teaches me? Thanksgiving: What can I thank God for in light of what he has done? Supplication: What do I need to ask of God in order to grow in light of this? DID YOU KNOW?
