Luke 2:1-21
Sermon Talks
- What caught your attention in this week’s message? Was there something you had never heard before or something you had a question about?
- Read 2 Samuel 7:1-17, Isaiah 7:14, and Micah 5:2. What prophecies were fulfilled through Joseph and Mary in Bethlehem?
- Read 2 Corinthians 8:9. What did Jesus give up to come to us as a baby in a manger?
- How does the timing of the census, the hardship of traveling while pregnant, and giving birth in a manger help you view less than ideal circumstances differently?
- Why do you think God chose the shepherds to be His spokespersons for His grand entrance into the world? In what ways did the shepherds point to who Jesus was and what He would do for all mankind?
- There was no room for Jesus’ birth. Are there any areas in your life where room is lacking for Jesus? What are some things you can do to make more room for Him this Christmas season?
- The shepherds left Jesus, Joseph, and Mary praising God. In what ways has the gift of Jesus been good news and great joy in your life? What are some practical ways you can share that gift with others?
- After the shepherds told Joseph and Mary what had been told to them, verse 19 tells us, “But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.” Take time this Christmas season to meditate on what God has done for you in 2023. Spend some time praying about how He can use you in 2024. Be very sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s leading.
Pray about it: Meditate on God’s Word (Luke 2:1-21) and this week’s message.
Adoration: What can I praise God for in light of what this teaches me?
Confession: What sin can I confess because of what this teaches me?
Thanksgiving: What can I thank God for in light of what he has done?
Supplication: What do I need to ask of God in order to grow in light of this?
