Sermon Talks
- What caught your attention in this week’s message? Was there something you had never heard before or something you had a question about?
- What is a parable? Why did Jesus use this form of teaching so frequently?
- What was Jesus’ point in the Parable of the Tenants? Who were represented by each of the characters?
- Reread Matthew 21:42-44. Who is the cornerstone Jesus speaks of?
- When someone has an encounter with Jesus, they will either be broken or crushed. What is the difference? Why does our culture devalue broken things? Why does God value brokenness?
- Go back and read about Jesus’ encounter with the Pharisees and Herodians concerning paying taxes. What did Jesus mean in His statement, “So give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s?”
- What is the significance of being created in the image and likeness of God? What does it mean to give your life to God?
- In the Greatest Commandment, Jesus challenges us to love Him and then love others. Why is it so hard to love others? What kind of love should we show others (see John 13:34)?
- Read Philippians 2:3-5. How can we apply these verses to the Great Commandment?
- In Matthew’s account, Jesus says, “Love the Lord your God with all of your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” In Mark’s account (Mark 12:30) Jesus includes strength. How do you love Jesus in all these areas?
Pray about it: Meditate on God’s Word (Matthew 21:33-46, 22:15-22, 34-40) and this week’s message.
Adoration: What can I praise God for in light of what this teaches me?
Confession: What sin can I confess because of what this teaches me?
Thanksgiving: What can I thank God for in light of what he has done?
Supplication: What do I need to ask of God in order to grow in light of this?
