Was there something you had never heard before or something you had a question about? Have you ever been scared of the dark? Are you currently scared of the dark? Go back and read 1 John 1 again. How does this chapter demonstrate the authenticity of Jesus? How might this chapter affect your view of moral relativism – the idea that there are no absolute truths? Verse 5 says, “God is light. In him there is no darkness at all.” What are the implications of that for our daily lives? How do you interpret the phrase “walk in the light” in your everyday life? Give some examples. What does “walking in darkness” mean? What are some examples of this? Why can the darkness be so enticing? Read John 3:19-21. What are the two reasons people are hesitant to come into the light? Do you know people who “buy into” the false claim that you can do whatever you want if you have “prayed a prayer?” Have you believed this false claim at any point in your life? John addresses the false claim that we are not really sinners. Read and discuss the following scriptures that make up the “Romans Road. Scriptures that focus on the fact that the Bible is clear that we all have sinned and desperately need a Savior. Romans 3:10, 3:23, 5:8, 5:12, 6:23, 10:9-10 Do you think Washington Alliance is a place where people can step into the light and know they are surrounded by people who will love them, help them, and not shame them? Pray about it: Meditate on God’s Word (1 John 1) and this week’s message. Adoration: What can I praise God for in light of what this teaches me? Confession: What sin can I confess because of what this teaches me? Thanksgiving: What can I thank God for in light of what he has done?
