The Spirit of Gossip & Slander

 

1. Gossipers cannot be .

 

Gossip:
Idle talk or rumor about the private affairs of others.

Slander:
A malicious false and defamatory statement or report.

 

Proverbs 11:13

A talebearer reveals secrets. But he who is of a faithful spirit conceals a matter.

 

Proverbs 20:19

He who goes about as a talebearer reveals secrets. Therefore (do not associate) with one who flatters with his lips.

 

Flatters:

To praise excessively especially from motives of self interest.

 

1. Gossipers cannot be trusted.
2. Gossipers friendships.

 

Proverbs 16:28

A perverse man shows strife. And a (whisperer) separates the “best” of friends.

 

Whisperer = Rumormonger

Hebrew Definition:
It means one who gossips but does so by murmuring and complaining. To excessively complain.

 

Perverse:
Websters Definition:
To be obstinate in opposing what is right, or accepted.

Perverse in Hebrew:
“ikkesh”
Crooked, distorted, or twisted.

 

A clinical point of view of a perverse personality:
Is characterized by “constant manipulation of others and disrespect of limits”

 

1. Gossipers cannot be trusted.
2. Gossipers destroy friendships.
3. Gossipers cause everywhere they go.

 

Proverbs 15:18

A wrathful man stirs up strife.

 

James 3:5-6

Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles! 6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature, and it is set on fire by hell.

 

1. Gossipers cannot be trusted.
2. Gossipers destroy friendships.
3. Gossipers cause strife everywhere they go.
4. Gossipers have too much on their hands.

 

1 Timothy 5:13

And besides they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house, and not only idle but also gossips and busybodies, saying things which they ought not.

 

Busybodies:
A person who pries into or meddles in the affairs of others.

 

Ephesians 4:29-32

Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to hearers. 30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31 Let “all” bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor,  and evil speaking be put away from you, with “all” malice. 32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted,  forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.

 

1. Gossipers can not be trusted.
2. Gossipers destroy friendships.
3. Gossipers cause strife everywhere they go.
4. Gossipers have too much time on their hands.
5. What should we be about or ?

 

Philippians 4:8

Finally brethren,(christians) whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of GOOD report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy..meditate on these things.

 

Mark 16:15

And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature”

 

Joel 3:14
